Elder care is a billion dollar industry in the United States. Thousands of agencies and services are available to serve seniors and their families who are looking for elder care services, but most people need guidance in locating resources to meet their needs. Insurance questions, especially about Medicare and Medicaid, are confusing. Eligibility questions and application procedures often make accessing services very complicated. Rules and regulations are constantly changing. Seniors and their families often loose benefits because they are not aware of the resources or they are misinformed about these services. The Senior Resource Guidebook is a comprehensive elder care resource for insurance, housing resources, help in the home, and advance directives. One of the most important features of the Guidebook is a series of checklists to help seniors and their families “ask the right questions” to get the services that are needed. The Document Locator provides the basis for much of the information needed to apply for many of the benefit programs, manage the elder’s affairs, and settle the estate, at the time of one’s death. Senior Answers and Services is dependent on grants and donations for much of our work. Contributions are always welcome. Senior Answers and Services is grateful for the printing support of the Senior Resource Guidebook from Kaiser Permanente. Volunteers provide much of the manpower and capacity for our work. Volunteers help with filing claims, visiting seniors in their homes and helping with in-home services. Others help to stuff envelopes and file records. Still others write manuals and design brochures. Schools and businesses collect food and deliver Christmas baskets. Dentists provide services at below market value to our clients. Attorneys provide legal consultations. These volunteers are the backbone of our organization. Questions are welcome. Solutions will be explored.
