Caregiving: The Baby Boomers New Challenge

Denver, CO. Caregiving is often what you make of it. It can be very demanding. As people are living longer, they often require assistance.

Caregiving can also be very rewarding. Caregivers report they become closer to the person for whom they are providing care. People feel needed and find caregiving an excellent way to get those needs met.

As a caregiver your loved one may have many needs. The following checklist can help you meet those needs.

My loved one:

1. Needs to get out and do something
2. Can do light housework, but needs help with heavy tasks
3. Has some legal matters that need attention
4. Can't drive or use public transportation and cabs cost too much
5. Is unable to remain in the present housing situation
6. Needs help with bathing, grooming, and dressing
7. Doesn't eat right
8. Has high health care costs
9. Cannot be left unattended or alone
10. Needs help with meals, housework, and laundry
11. Needs special services for physical limitations
12. Is acting strange and could be experiencing dementia
13. Is depressed, suspicious, angry all the time
14. Really needs 24-hour supervision
15. Has a terminal illness and wants to return home to die

The Senior Resource Guidebook is available for $7 postage and handling to help families find answers to these questions. For more information call Senior Answers and Services at 303-333-3482
