Press Release -- February 12, 2005

The Nurses Job Just Got Easier!

Denver, CO. "My nurse will know!" "She is caring and helps me when I am in trouble..." These and other statements are often used to describe nurses in hospitals, home care, nursing homes, and business.

Elder care is one of the areas many nurses find themselves being asked more and more questions as one in four Americans is faced with having to help an aging parent. Help for aging parents includes referrals to specialists, moving to an assisted living or nursing home, getting more help in the home, finding low cost prescriptions, signing up for Medicaid, and answering complicated questions about Medicare and health insurance.

The process of finding information can be overwhelming and very time consuming. Literally in Colorado more than two thousand agencies provide some form of elder care services. The Salute to Seniors brings hundreds of experts together for the largest senior fair in Colorado.

Nurses can get answers at the 16th Annual Salute to Seniors on May 4 at the Colorado Convention Center from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Elder care experts will be available to provide information, assessments, resources, and answers to complicated questions. The Colorado Gerontological Society has done much of the research in identifying the experts and many of the agencies serving seniors by bringing them together to save nurses time!

Experts from successful aging programs, health spas, and exercise centers specifically designed for seniors, demonstrate ways to stay healthy and live longer lives. Personal trainers, massage therapists, and alternative medicine experts explain the benefits of relaxation, herbal medicines and vitamins, and healthy lifestyles.

Attorneys, bankers, reverse mortgage lenders, financial planners, investment brokers, and real estate agents specialize in helping seniors avoid Medicaid, buy long term care insurance, downsize into a smaller home, and make their life savings last longer. A series of educational programs and information is offered on financial and legal matters.

Physicians, pharmacists, home care agencies, hospices, and health plans specialize in keeping seniors healthy and living independent longer, despite such things as chronic disease and ongoing pain. These experts can help families and loved ones find ways to stay at home longer.

Housing experts in retirement communities, assisted living, and nursing homes provide tips on ways to help those who must move from their home and adjust to new life styles and routines. Many people grieve and become depressed as they are forced to leave their home.

Experts from Social Security and Medicare will be on hand to help seniors sign up for the new Medicare Part D, the newest challenge to seniors as they sign up for prescription drug coverage.

In addition to talking with experts, a series of educational programs and demonstrations will be featured at the Salute to Seniors, as well as two stage performances by The Four Lads. The Four Lads will appear live at 10:30 am and again a 1:00 pm. Hundreds of prizes will be given away throughout the day.

Nurses, families, and seniors can take advantage of this great elder care learning opportunity for only $7. Bring a friend for half price. Tickets are available by calling 303-333-3482 or at www.senioranswers.org
