Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP)
The Colorado Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) is a federally funded state-supervised, county-administered system and is designed to assist with your winter heating costs. The LEAP Program eligibility period runs from November 1st through April 30th.
During this period, CGS can provide you with applications for LEAP as well as assistance filling out applications and information on where to submit your application. You may download an application here.
Eligibility Requirements - You may qualify for LEAP assistance if:
- You are a U.S. Citizen or a legal resident of Colorado
- You pay heating costs directly to an energy provider or you pay the cost of heating your home with your rent
- Your gross monthly household income falls within the guidelines set annually and posted November 1st of each year. The maximum gross monthly income is based on 185% of the federal poverty level
- For the 2012-2013 season, the maximum income for a single person is $1,397 and $1,892 for a married couple (add $495 for each additional household member)
You may mail your application, fax it, or drop it off at your conty LEAP office. Click here for the list of county office addresses, locations, and fax numbers. Be aware that the county has fifty days to process non-emergency applications. You can check the status of your application by calling 1-866-432-8435 (HEAT HELP).
