LIFETIME SERVICE AWARD

The Colorado Gerontological Society is establishing the Lifetime Service Award to recognize individuals who have made significant and sustained contributions to the ethical principles of scholarship, administration, leadership, and mentoring.  The Lifetime Service Award honors outstanding individuals to recognize the impact they have made on the lives of our community, especially older adults.

Juanita Rios Johnston

Juanita retired from Denver Human Services where she was employed for 30 years, most recently as the Director of Adult Protective Services.  She provided leadership to the department as the federal, state, and local statutes changed and expanded the role of county departments of human service to protect at-risk adults from abuse and neglect.  She served in other roles at the Department as well.

Juanita also served on numerous boards and commissions over the years including the Denver Commission on Aging and as Secretary/Treasurer of the Colorado Gerontological Society.  She is also active in her church.

She married the love of her life “Tom” fourteen years ago and is happily retired.
