For more than 20 years, USA WEEKEND Magazine, in collaboration with Points of Light, has sponsored Make A Difference Day to inspire Americans to give back to their communities by volunteering in thousands of projects of all sizes. In 2012, over 3 million volunteers all over the country participated in Make A Difference Day in the largest annual day of giving in the country.
Can you imagine living without hearing your children and your grandchildren, being able to eat and chew the foods you like or seeing your loved ones against the backdrop of the morning sun? All these experiences escape many people who are on the waiting list of the Colorado Gerontological Society for help with hearing aids, eye glasses, and dentures.
The Colorado Gerontological Society has partnered with Hearing Rehab Center to provide hearing aids to 100 older adults who can’t hear on Make A Difference Day. On Saturday October 24th 2015, The Society partnered with twelve community organizations who together donated more than $325,000 of hearing aids and eyeglasses to 118 low income seniors in Colorado. These volunteers united with millions of volunteers across the nation with a common mission – to improve the lives of others.
Listen to Susan Collins tell her story of having a hearing loss, not being aware of it, and the amazement of getting a hearing aid for free during Make A Difference Day!
On Make A Difference Day, the Society and our volunteer providers provided Dental, Hearing and Vision Services for Low-Income Seniors, fitting individuals with hearing aids, or providing eye exams and eyeglasses. The project helps to serve individuals in our Dental, Hearing and Vision grant programs in order to help expand the number of people who can be served every year. All together, our volunteers provided over $325,000 worth of equipment and services to make a difference in the lives of those most in need in our community.
The Colorado Gerontological Society would like the thank our partner organizations for their generous donations of time, services and equipment to our Make a Difference Day project. Organizations committed to the project include Hearing Rehab Center, Mark’s Optical, Advanced Audiology Inc, Hearing & Tinnitus Center, HearingLife of Northglenn, Denver Ear Associates, HearingLife of Arvada, New Leaf Hearing Clinic, Look Optical, Marion Downs Center, The Hearing Clinic, Professional Hearing Services, and ReplaceALens.
