Assisted Living

Assisted Living housing is appropriate for people who desire a degree of independence but who may need help with certain aspects of their day-to-day routine.  Living spaces may feature individual rooms, apartments, or shared quarters. Facilities include small homes with as few as three residents who share a residential home to large apartment-type buildings These residences generally provide a home-like setting, designed to promote independence and comfort.   

Assisted Living facilities are more structured than independent living facilities, which typically provide support as needed or pre-arranged basis.  Conversely, they provide more independence than skilled nursing care facilities, in which residents receive full-time care by specially trained medical staff.  

Assisted Living residences provide 24-7 oversight and supervision from trained personal care workers,  qualified medication administration persons, and house managers.  Some residences also have professional staff such as nurses, social workers, kitchen and maintenance staff.  Assisted Living housing options commonly provide:  

  • Medication management 
  • Assistance with using the bathroom 
  • Dressing and grooming  
  • Housekeeping 
  • Meals 
  • Laundry 
  • Transportation services 
  •  Social programs and activities 

 

Need for Care 
Ambulatory, able to follow cues, may need stand-by assistance to guide  personal care, oriented to self and others
