
Eileen Doherty
Executive Director
Eileen Doherty has been the Executive Director of the Colorado Gerontological Society since 1982. She teaches Nonprofit Management in the Department of Sociology at Fort Hays State University, Hays, Kansas. She has more than 40 years of experience in education and training, clinical practice, research, and public policy in gerontology.
She has authored and published numerous publications on senior issues, served on numerous public policy committees, Boards of Directors and received many awards and recognition, including Denver Mayor Michael Hancock’s Diversity Award (2012), Fort Hays State University Alumni Award (2002) and Frank Ishida Award from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (2008) and the Regional Director’s Citation for Medicare and Medicaid Beneficiaries by the US Department of Health and Human Services Region VIII in November 2004. She lectures frequently to professionals and students, bringing expertise in seniors issues including Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care, housing, health, and economics.

Bernadette Schmeits

Responsible for day-to-day operations of vision, hearing and dental program including eligibility, approval of grants, management of wait lists, filing utilization reports, and program outreach. She is a graduate of University of Nebraska with a BS in Theatre and a BA in Education with an emphasis in Social Sciences, History, and Political Science. Graduated cum laude.
