For years Colorado homeowners age 65 and over have been asking the state legislature to make the senior homestead exemption portable. Now, starting in 2025, legislators agreed that if an individual lived in their home for 10 years, claimed the homestead exemption and then lost the exemption because they moved to a new home, they could take the property tax reduction with them to the new home. Details of how to apply for the exemption for those who lost it because they moved since 2015 will be discussed.
