Programs & Projects

In our continuing efforts to serve the Colorado senior community, The Society has several ongoing programs and special projects. These include: providing application forms for a variety of public benefits; resource lists for legal, health and home maintenance; counseling on Medicare and Medicaid as well as private insurance and long term planning; assistance with tax and claim filing; and limited grant assistance to help low income olders adults with dental work, eyeglasses and hearing aids.  Click on one of the buttons below for more information about a specific program, project or event.

Quality Management Plan Compliance Training

Plan to attend a four-day Quality Management Program development intensive for ALRs and other group homes designed to bring you into compliance with the Colorado Department of Public Health's new compliance regulations. Sessions are offered in January, February, March and April 2016.

Assisted Living Owner/Operator Training

The Society is a certified provider of the Assisted Living Administrator Training required for licensure of assisted living facilities in Colorado. All individuals who will own or operate (including in a temporary capacity) an assisted living facility are required to complete this training from a certified provider. Designed for aging services professionals, the Benefits for Seniors workshop is a hands-on training on major public benefits available to seniors, from Medicare and Medicaid to Senior Employment Programs and Weatherization. The Patient Advocacy Leadership Summit (PALS) is a national effort to help advocates collaborate and to promote effective advocacy at all levels for patients. Dental Grants

Through a grant from the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing and supported by other community grants and donations, CGS administers the Senior Low Income Dental Program to provide limited financial assistance to Denver metro area seniors for basic dental care.

Elder Abuse Reporting Workshops

On July 1, 2014 the new mandatory elder abuse reporting law went into effect in Colorado. On July 1, 2016 the law expands to include mandatory reporting of any “at-risk” adult age 18 and over and also expands the scope of individuals required to report. Holiday Baskets for Seniors

Every holiday season, The Society assembles and delivers 200 Holiday Baskets to low-income seniors who will be alone for the holidays, including food to prepare a holiday meal and a personal present for each person. This year we will be collecting and sorting food on Thursday December 18, packing baskets on Friday December 19 and delivering baskets and presents on Saturday December 20. All activities will take place at First Baptist Church of Denver, 1375 Grant St, Denver 80203.

The Medicare Advantage Work Group is a bimonthly meeting that includes representatives of the insurance industry, state and federal government and consumer advocates who come together on a regular basis to discuss updates to Medicare policy, industry concerns and consumer issues.
