Assisted Living Front Line Staff Training

Front Line Staff Training is the key in helping your facility manage staff education and ensure that your residents are receiving the best possible care.

Many assisted living residences have seen a loss of staff during the past several months either due to COVID-19 or other reasons. Especially during times of crisis, it is hard to find the time and spare the staff to train new hires as required by Colorado law. The Colorado Gerontological Society is pleased to offer a four-hour training course for basic orientation of front line staff, covering all requirements under Chapter VII of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Standards for Hospitals and Health Facilities (6 CCR 1011-1).

Training content will include:

  • Resident Rights
  • House Rules
  • Hand Washing/Gloves/Masks
  • Elder Abuse
  • Emergencies
  • Fire
  • Evacuation
  • Skilled vs Non-Skilled Services
  • Policies and Procedures
  • Agency Relations

The training will replace your residence’s need to provide a comprehensive curriculum and ensure a standardization of training among all of your front line staff. With a post-test, demonstration of competency and follow-up survey, your staff will have verifiable results that can directly improve the quality of resident care. Skills tests and competency observations will still need to be conducted by your residence’s onsite staff for personnel files. Your agency is responsible for recruitment and interviewing.

The trainer is Patricia Cook, RN, BSN, MA, of The Society. Pat is the Direct of Special Projects and provides training and consultation to assisted livings on a variety of topics, including plans of corrections, staff training, quality management plans, securing personal protective equipment (PPE), infection control plans, and general problem solving.

Sessions are conducted as two segments of two hours each across two days to allow for your new staff to get onboarding and on-the-job training with your onsite staff so they can hit the ground running.

Each participant will need their own computer/table to complete the sessions and assignments. Each participant needing a training certificate will need to register separately and complete their own coursework.

Cost is $75 for the first registrant and $65 for each additional registrant.
