Volunteer for the Holiday Baskets for Seniors

In this time of COVID-19, The Society is re-designing the Holiday Basket project.  We will be delivering 300 baskets, an increase from previous years as we are planning that many more older adults will be suffering from isolation, depression, and needing a little Holiday cheer.  We will be delivering baskets on December 19, 2020 between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.

To participate, we are asking that you Adopt-a-Senior, or a few!  To Adopt-a-Senior, you will purchase a list of items such as canned goods, boxed potatoes, fruit, bread, and so forth for the number of seniors you, your family or your company wish to adopt. You, your family or your company representatives will be responsible for delivering the baskets to the senior(s).  To practice social distancing, you will drive through the Society parking lot at 1129 Pennsylvania, Denver  and volunteers in CDC approved personal protect equipment will put chickens, gifts, and a hygiene kit in your trunk for each of your seniors.  You will get the name(s) of the seniors you have adopted before you leave the parking lot. You will continue to practice social distancing, by leaving the basket on the front porch or in the lobby of the apartment building.  The senior will come pick up the basket after you call them to let them know it is on the porch or in the lobby.

You will shop for the following items, put them in box(es) or bag(s) and bring them with you when you pick up the chicken, gift and hygiene kit.  Be mindful of the weight of the box(es) or bag(s) as some of our older adults will not be able to lift heavy boxes. Use more than one bag or box if necessary.

Each Holiday Basket will include:

  • 2 cans of corn
  • 2 cans of green beans
  • 2 cans of soup
  • 2 cans of fruit
  • 2 cans of tuna
  • 1 box of stuffing
  • 1 package or box of rice
  • 1 package or box of pasta
  • 1 package or box of potatoes
  • 1 package or jar of gravy
  • 1 loaf of bread
  • 1 box of cereal
  • 1 package of cookies
  • 1 box of crackers
  • 2 oranges
  • 2 apples
  • 2 bananas
