Often referred to as the Senior Homestead Exemption, qualifying individuals receive a 50% discount on the first $200,000 of value of the home, if they have lived in the home for 10 years.
Who Can Receive the Credit
- Age 65 and over; or
- Surviving spouse who was eligible prior to the death of the spouse and who has not remarried; or
- 100% disabled veterans; or
- Gold Star surviving spouse

- Long Form (under circumstances, individuals may have to complete this form)
How often do you have to apply?
- Only the initial application is required.
What is the deadline to apply?
- Each county has a different deadline. Contact your county assessor for the deadline.
When Does the Credit Become Available?
- If you apply by the deadline established by your county, the credit is available for the next year’s taxes, (i.e. Denver county, must apply by July 15, 2023 for the credit to be effective on the 2024 taxes.)
